Halloween at the Park

Shanghai Disneyland’s Halloween season runs from 4 October to 1 November 2026, confirmed by the resort on 20 August 2026. The headline evening events, Spook-tacular Days, expand from eight days last year to ten, and they fall on 16-18 October, 23-25 October and 29 October - 1 November.

Read those two facts together and the useful conclusion appears: the season opens inside Golden Week, but the evening events do not start until well after it ends.

The two things that genuinely differ from other Disney parks are worth knowing in advance: the Halloween party is included in normal admission, and adults are allowed to wear costumes, which almost nowhere else in the Disney world permits.

What the season has looked like

The distinction that matters every year: the evening events do not run daily. In 2026 the season is 29 days long and Spook-tacular Days occupy ten of them, so the first twelve days — 4 to 15 October — carry no evening event at all. Decorations, character costumes and daytime atmosphere cover the whole season; the villain-led evening programme does not.

September is its own thing: Duffy Month runs 1-30 September 2026, with LinaBell’s fifth anniversary on 23-29 September, before the Halloween season begins.

What is new in 2026

• A daytime edition of Donald’s Halloween Treat Cavalcade, alongside the evening one. This is the most useful addition for anyone visiting outside a Spook-tacular Day, because it is the part of the villain programme you can see without one.
• Guests in costume may be picked to join the cavalcade alongside Donald and Daisy.
• Peg-Leg Pete joins the Halloween line-up for the first time, and there is a Disney Villains celebration at the castle.
• Mickey and friends appear in steampunk-styled looks, Duffy and friends as a bard troupe, and Zootopia runs its own “Howl-o-ween” programming.

No extra ticket, unlike the US parks

This is the point most likely to be misread by anyone who knows Disney Halloween in America. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary at Walt Disney World is a separately ticketed hard-ticket event. In Shanghai, the 2026 announcement names no separate Halloween ticket, and in 2025 Spook-tacular was explicitly part of regular park admission — you need a ticket for the date, nothing more.

That reframes the budgeting question. Instead of buying an event ticket, the decision is simply which date to visit, and the date drives the price through the six-tier calendar described in the ticket guide.

Costume rules, in full

The resort publishes an official Halloween costume policy, and it is stricter than the “come in costume” headline suggests. One practical note: that page is republished for each season and was offline at the end of August 2026, so treat the table below as last season’s rules and check the official page once it returns.

The practical consequence of the last two rows: whatever you wear, you will wear it on the metro, through the security screening and for the entire day. A costume that works for a two-hour party does not necessarily work for fourteen hours in the open air.

The Golden Week trap

The season opens inside the worst week of the Chinese travel year. National Day Golden Week runs 1-7 October, and in 2026 it is preceded by Mid-Autumn on 25-27 September, which stretches the peak from 25 September to 7 October.

In 2026 that lands unusually well, because the evening events sit outside the peak entirely:

• 4-7 October — the season is open, decorations are up, and so is the largest crowd of the autumn at the top ticket tier. No Spook-tacular Day falls here.
• 8-15 October — crowds and prices drop and the decorations remain, but there is still no evening event.
• 16 October onwards — Spook-tacular Days begin, and the crowd that filled Golden Week has gone home.

Going with children

Shanghai’s Halloween leans on Disney villains and theatrical spectacle rather than horror, so it is aimed at families rather than at people who want a scare. Two practical notes for parents:

• Costume rules apply to children too, and the no-changing-on-site rule means planning the journey around whatever they are wearing.
