A Day with a Toddler

A day here with a two- or three-year-old is not a shorter version of the adult day. It is a different plan with a different constraint: the nap, not the ride list. Build the day around when your child sleeps and eats, and the park cooperates surprisingly well.

This page is the timed plan. The rules underneath it — every height limit, stroller size caps, the wagon ban — are in the visiting with kids guide, and worth reading before you pack.

What your child can actually ride

Better than most parents expect, because several of the park’s best attractions have no height requirement at all.

Under 3, or 1.0 m and under, your child enters free and needs no ticket. From 3 the child fare applies at roughly 75% of the adult price — about 326-599 CNY depending on the date. See the ticket guide.

The day, hour by hour

08:00-10:00 — The golden window

The park opens at 08:30 and the first ninety minutes are the only time of day when a toddler’s tolerance and the queue lengths line up. Spend them efficiently:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean. Nine minutes, seated, indoors, no height limit, and it absorbs crowds well all day — but ride it now while it is a walk-on.
2. Peter Pan’s Flight and Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, both in Fantasyland and both queue-free early.
3. Dumbo or the Fantasia Carousel in Gardens of Imagination, which is where most under-fours would happily stay all day.

Two notes. The Baby Care Center is on Mickey Avenue, right by the entrance — convenient on the way in, a long walk back from Adventure Isle, so use it before you head deeper into the park. And skip Roaring Rapids entirely: 107 cm minimum and everyone gets soaked, which is not a toddler-friendly combination in any season.

10:00-11:00 — Rider Switch, if the adults want a turn

Rider Switch lets one adult wait with the child while the other rides, then swap without queueing again. It is confirmed on Soaring Over the Horizon. There is no published list of participating attractions, so ask at the entrance rather than planning around it.

Be realistic about the cost: a Rider Switch on a 60-minute queue means one parent is alone with a tired toddler for an hour. On a busy date, paying for Premier Access on that one ride is often the cheaper trade in family terms.

11:00-12:00 — Eat before you need to

Toddler hunger is not negotiable and the nearest kiosk may be in another land. Eat at 11:00, before both the queues and the child peak.

The park has allowed outside food since 2019, and for this age group that rule matters more than any other on this page: familiar snacks, in your bag, ready in ten seconds. What you may and may not bring — and the in-park price bands — are in the food guide.

12:00-15:00 — The rest block

This is the part that inexperienced parents cut, and it is the part that decides how the day ends. Three ways to do it:

• Back to the hotel if you are staying on the resort. Cleanest option, real sleep, and you return to a genuinely fresh child.
• Stroller nap in a quiet zone. Gardens of Imagination and the paths around the castle are the calmest parts of the park in the early afternoon.
• Out to Disneytown or Wishing Star Park. Both are free and need no ticket, and re-entry to the park is normal — the cost is the second security screening. See the free areas guide.

The afternoon is also the hottest, most crowded part of the day. You are not missing anything by sitting it out.

Where the stroller becomes a problem

The stroller is essential and it is also the thing that will annoy you most.

• Rental: about 90 CNY a day for a single, 120 CNY for a double, from just inside the main entrance turnstiles. Rentals are meant for ages 3 to 7, up to 35 kg and 1.33 m, and are not suitable for babies. They cannot leave the park, so they are no use for the walk from the metro.
• Your own: fine within 110 cm long and 80 cm wide fully extended. Wagons have been banned since 30 June 2023 — this is the single most common way families are turned back at the gate.
• At attractions: you park the stroller outside and carry the child in. Factor that into how much you load it with, and never leave anything valuable in it.
• In crowds: after 15:00 on a busy date, a stroller stops being faster than carrying. On peak dates that is an argument for the rest block, not for pushing through.

15:00-18:30 — Second wind, then leave

After the rest, the park is friendlier: the light softens, the temperature drops and characters are out. This is the time to repeat whatever your child asked to do again — repetition is the point at this age, not coverage.

Then the hard call: leave before the evening show. The show finishes close to closing, and it delivers the biggest crowd of the day straight into the metro station with an overtired child. Leaving at around 18:00 costs you one set piece and protects everything that came before it.

If you do stay: watch from Gardens of Imagination, claim a spot early, and accept that you will be leaving in the crush.
