Visiting with Children

Height is what shapes a family day at Shanghai Disneyland, and the limits run from 81 cm to 122 cm. That spread matters: a 105 cm five-year-old rides Zootopia, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Soaring Over the Horizon but not TRON, while a child under a metre still has a full day of boats, dark rides and carousels ahead of them.

The other things worth settling in advance are smaller but sharper: what the child ticket actually covers, what a stroller costs, and the wagon ban that sends families back to the car park.

Height limits, ride by ride

Two practical notes. Measure your child at home in the shoes they will wear, because the check at the ride is not negotiable and 121 cm is not 122 cm. And note that Roaring Rapids does not merely splash: everyone gets wet, which for a small child in October is a change of clothes, not a joke.

The strongest news for families with the smallest children is the no-limit list. Pirates of the Caribbean is nine minutes long, built only for Shanghai, and among the best attractions in any Disney park — and there is no height requirement at all.

What does a child’s ticket cost?

The child fare is a percentage of whatever the adult tier is for your date, so the date still drives the bill more than anything else. Tickets are tied to the passport used to buy them and that document is scanned at the gate, so buy the child’s ticket on the child’s own passport. The ticket guide covers the tier calendar in full.

Strollers: rental, and the ban that catches people out

You can rent inside the park, just past the main entrance turnstiles:

Rental strollers are intended for children aged 3 to 7, up to 35 kg and 1.33 m, and they are not suitable for babies under six months. They cannot leave the park — return them where you collected them at the end of the day.

If you bring your own, two rules decide whether you get in:

• Wagons are banned. Since 30 June 2023 stroller wagons, trailers and stroller-suitcases are refused at the gate. This is the single most common way families get caught out, because these are popular exactly with the families who most want them.
• Size limit: 110 cm long, 80 cm wide with everything fully extended, accessories included. Strollers are for children up to 11 years or 1.4 m, and are not to be used as luggage trolleys inside the park.

Wheelchairs, manual and electric, are unaffected.

Baby Care Center and Rider Switch

The Baby Care Center is on Mickey Avenue, immediately inside the entrance: nursing room, changing tables, bottle warming and a small stock of basic baby supplies. Its position is convenient in one direction and awkward in the other — it is the first thing you pass on the way in, and a long walk back from Adventure Isle.

Rider Switch lets two adults take turns on a ride without both queueing, while one waits with the child. It is confirmed on Soaring Over the Horizon. A full official list of participating attractions is not published, so ask at the attraction entrance rather than assuming.

Shaping the day around a child

A few things that change a family day more than any route plan:

• Arrive at opening. The park usually opens at 08:30, and the first hour is the calmest, coolest and emptiest stretch of the day — exactly the conditions small children handle best.
• Bring your own food. Allowed since September 2019, and the difference between a fed child and a meltdown is often ten minutes and a snack rather than finding a restaurant. Details and price bands in the food guide.
• Do the tall-child rides early. If one parent is riding TRON while the other waits, do it before the queues build rather than at 3pm.
• Treat the afternoon as downtime. The no-limit boats and carousels are where a tired child recovers, not where you start.
